MotionEdge comes out of three careers: coaching golfers with launch-monitor data, running a golf facility, and building software. This is that story.
Five years in the bay.
Dwain spent five years running Alta View Golf, a TrackMan-equipped indoor golf facility in Utah. Over 1,000 one-on-one sessions, with golfers of every level from first-timers to scratch players.
He is a TrackMan Certified Professional, Level 2, and built the Alta View Golf YouTube channel breaking down swings and TrackMan data.
What kept getting lost.
The best part of the job was watching someone finally see what their swing was doing. The worst part was watching that insight disappear the moment they walked out the door.
The data was trapped in the bay. The video lived on someone's phone. The coach's feedback was a memory by Tuesday. Nothing connected.
Decades of building software.
Before golf, and alongside it, Dwain spent decades building software. He held product leadership roles at Microsoft and Symantec, was CTO at two public technology companies, and has consulted for software firms for more than a decade. That is why MotionEdge is built as a real product, with native apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac and analysis that runs on your device, not as a weekend side project.
Why he built MotionEdge.
Fixing that problem takes all three: knowing what launch-monitor numbers mean, seeing what golfers actually do with feedback after a lesson, and knowing how to build software that keeps it. MotionEdge captures every swing, grades it on your device, and puts an AI coach beside your own video and TrackMan numbers, so what you learn in the bay comes home with you.
Still competing.
Dwain has won multiple club championships in both match play and stroke play formats. He uses MotionEdge on his own swing because he wants to get better too.
