Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 12, 2026

MotionEdge("we," "us," or "our") is a golf swing analysis app — a DBA of D K Land and Cattle, L.C. This policy explains what data MotionEdge collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. It applies to the MotionEdge app (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac) and to the motionedge.ai website.

Our Commitment

MotionEdge is built around a simple principle: your swing data is yours. Your videos, pose analysis, and practice history are stored on your device and in your own private iCloud account, not on MotionEdge's servers. The one exception is AI Coach, described below: when you allow it, the app sends the items listed there to a third-party AI provider to write a coaching reply. We collect only the minimum needed to keep the app working, fix bugs, and understand feature usage in aggregate. We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use your data for advertising.

Data Stored On Your Device and in Your Own iCloud Account (Not Collected By Us)

Most of what MotionEdge touches never reaches our servers at all — it stays on your device and, if you enable iCloud Sync, in your own private iCloud database, which MotionEdge and its developers cannot read or access:

  • Swing videos and photos, recorded with your camera and microphone, analyzed on-device.
  • Pose and biomechanics data, computed on-device from your videos. Not sent to MotionEdge's servers. Not sent to any AI provider unless you attach that swing to AI Coach, in which case selected still frames are sent as described below.
  • Session, swing, and practice history, your library of recorded sessions.
  • Apple Watch and Health data, with your permission via Apple HealthKit. Specific readings we may read during a practice or round: heart rate (including average, minimum, maximum, and resting), heart rate variability (HRV), steps, active and basal calories, walking distance, flights climbed, and workout sessions. Use: show effort and fitness context next to your swings. Never transmitted to MotionEdge's servers, never sold, never used for advertising or marketing, and never sent to any AI provider.
  • Location, with your permission through Apple Location Services. Use: tag where a swing or round was recorded so you can filter and remember your practice history. Stays in your local data and your own iCloud account, not sent to MotionEdge's servers or any AI provider. The rest of the app works if you decline Location.
  • Motion and Bluetooth data, used momentarily to detect your swing and pair with your Apple Watch. Not stored as a raw stream, not transmitted.
  • Voice commands, if you enable hands-free capture, short voice phrases ("start recording" / "stop recording") are recognized on-device using Apple's Speech framework. We don't transcribe, store, or transmit your voice.
  • Remote Camera, MotionEdge can use a second iPhone, iPad, or Mac as an additional camera over your local Wi-Fi network. Video only travels between your own devices; it never reaches the internet or MotionEdge's servers.
  • Golfer profile, details you choose to enter (for example handedness, gender, age range, experience, handicap, rounds per year). Stored on your device and, if you use iCloud Sync, in your own private iCloud account. Included in an AI Coach request only after you allow third-party AI sharing, as described below.
  • Launch monitor numbers, such as TrackMan data you import or capture. Stored with that swing on your device and in your own iCloud. Sent to an AI provider only when you attach that swing to AI Coach and have allowed sharing.

If you delete the app or turn off iCloud Sync, this data is deleted or remains only on your device, per your iCloud and device settings.

Data MotionEdge Does Collect

How: while you use the app, MotionEdge automatically sends a small set of data through Google Firebase (Google's analytics and crash-reporting service). What: a random per-install device identifier, app usage events (screens viewed, features used), crash reports and diagnostic data, and purchase/subscription status (a one-way cryptographic hash of your App Store transaction, never your name, email, or Apple ID). Use: keep the app reliable, fix crashes, and understand which features are used. None of this is linked to your real-world identity, none of it is used for advertising, and none of it is used to track you across other apps. Firebase retains this data according to Google's standard retention settings. Because the records are not linked to your name or email, we cannot look them up from a support message. Uninstalling the app stops further collection.

MotionEdge does not have user accounts. There's no sign-up, no email address, no password. MotionEdge does not use advertising SDKs, does not use Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), and does not request App Tracking Transparency permission because we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites at all.

Optional connections — GHIN

How: if you choose to connect a GHIN account, you enter your GHIN number or email and password in the app. MotionEdge sends those credentials from this device to GHIN (USGA) so it can retrieve your handicap index and recent posted rounds. Your GHIN password is stored only in this device's Keychain, not on MotionEdge's servers.

What: handicap index and recent rounds (scores, courses, ratings, differentials). Use: keep your golfer profile current and, if you allow AI Coach sharing, let the coach talk about how you actually score. Connecting GHIN is optional. Capture, review, and paid features work without it. You can disconnect in the app; that stops further GHIN fetches.

AI Coach — How Your Swing Data Is Used for Coaching

AI Coach is optional. On-device swing analysis, your library, camera, and the rest of MotionEdge work without it.

How: you type a question and optionally attach a swing. Only then — and only after you allow it — the app transmits the items below over an encrypted connection through MotionEdge's own relay server to a third-party AI provider, so that provider can write a coaching reply. After you have allowed sharing, optional coaching follow-ups use the same path.

What is sent:

  • The message you type
  • Earlier messages in that same conversation, so the coach can follow the thread
  • Still photos of you from any swing you attach (selected frames, not the full video)
  • Swing measurements for that question: tempo and related Apple Watch swing timing when the Watch recorded the swing, and TrackMan launch data when that swing has it. Watch timing is wrist motion used for tempo — not heart rate or other Health data.
  • Your golfer profile if you have filled one in (gender, handedness, age range, experience, handicap, rounds per year, communication preference — not your name)
  • Notes the app saved from your earlier AI Coach conversations (so the coach can remember what you have been working on)
  • If you connected GHIN, your handicap index and recent posted rounds when that conversation uses them

Depending on how the MotionEdge AI proxy is configured, that provider is Anthropic or xAI. We do not send your name, email, or Apple ID. The provider sees a request from MotionEdge's relay — not your identity. An anonymized (hashed) value may be included for abuse prevention and cannot be traced back to you or your device.

This is used only to generate the coaching reply you asked for. It is not used for advertising, marketing, or data mining. Camera stills and HealthKit readings are never used for those purposes. Chat messages and coaching prompts are never logged in our usage analytics. Data sent through our AI providers' APIs is not used to train their models. The provider may retain request data for a limited period (up to 30 days) for safety and abuse monitoring, then deletes it.

The relay forwards the request and returns the response. It does not keep your conversation content beyond completing that request. It does track a small amount of non-identifying usage data (an opaque device/subscription identifier and a token/cost count) to enforce your plan's allowance; those records are not linked to your name and expire automatically.

Your conversation history stays on your device and, if you use iCloud Sync, in your own private iCloud account — not on MotionEdge's servers.

Your choices — third-party AI sharing

The first time you submit something to AI Coach — and any time sharing is off — the app asks for your permission on a screen that lists what is sent and who receives it. Camera, your swing library, paid features, and the rest of the app keep working if you choose Not Now. Allowing Health, Location, or GHIN is also optional and is not required to use paid features.

You can grant or revoke this anytime in the app at Settings → AI Coach. Revoking stops further sends to Anthropic and xAI. It does not delete a reply already stored on your device or in your iCloud. To delete stored conversations and swings, use the Data Deletion steps below.

Third parties that receive user data from MotionEdge — currently Anthropic and xAI (AI Coach requests, via the MotionEdge relay), Google Firebase (in-app analytics and crash reports), Google Analytics (website traffic), and GHIN / USGA (only if you connect GHIN: your login, so we can retrieve handicap and rounds) — provide the same or equal protection of that data as stated in this policy.

Website Analytics

How: the motionedge.ai website automatically records visits through Google Analytics. What: aggregate traffic (pages viewed, general geography, referral source). Use: understand how the website is used. This is separate from the in-app analytics described above and is not linked to your MotionEdge app usage.

Data Deletion

MotionEdge has no user account to delete — there's nothing tied to your identity in our systems to remove. For the data that does exist:

  • Delete a single swing or session, swipe-to-delete or the context menu in the app; permanent and cannot be undone (a confirmation dialog appears first).
  • Remove your data from iCloud entirely, Settings → iCloud → Delete Data from iCloud removes all of your swing videos, sessions, and AI Coach history from your private iCloud database.
  • Stop iCloud Sync, Settings → iCloud lets you turn sync off; MotionEdge offers to download cloud-only videos first so nothing is lost.
  • Delete everything, uninstalling the app removes all on-device data. If iCloud Sync was ever enabled, also use "Delete Data from iCloud" to remove your private iCloud copy.

Children's Privacy

MotionEdge is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us using the information below and we will address it.

Changes to This Policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or how we use it. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's release notes.
