AI Coach — Can I Leave the App While My Swing Is Being Analyzed?
Short answer: yes. Once you've tapped Send and your swing is on its way to the AI Coach, you're free to do anything — take a call, check messages, lock your phone, switch to another app, even close MotionEdge entirely. The analysis keeps running in the background. When it's ready, we'll let you know.
This works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Here's what you'll see, how notifications work, and what to do in the rare case something goes wrong.
While your swing is being analyzed
After you send a swing, a couple of subtle indicators tell you the AI Coach is at work:
- On the AI Coach tab (iPhone) or sidebar entry (iPad / Mac), a small spinner appears next to the label along with the word "Analyzing." If more than one swing is being analyzed at the same time, you'll see a count (e.g. "Analyzing — 2").
- Inside the conversation, the row shows the same spinner so you know which conversation is waiting on a result.
Both indicators stay on screen even if you navigate away from the conversation, jump to a different session, or switch to Video Review. You don't need to stare at the chat — the indicators follow you around the app.
Switching away on iPhone and iPad
After you've sent the swing, do anything you like:
- Take a phone call
- Switch to Messages, Safari, or any other app
- Lock your screen and put your phone in your pocket
- Close MotionEdge entirely
When the analysis is ready, you'll get a tap-to-open banner notification along the top of your screen, on your lock screen, and in your Notification Center. The notification tells you which swing the AI Coach looked at (e.g. "AI Coach analyzed your 7-iron — tap to read"). Tap the banner and MotionEdge opens straight to the right conversation, scrolled to the new analysis. No hunting around.
If you'd rather come back on your own, that works too. Next time you open MotionEdge, the conversation is waiting with the full analysis already in place.
Switching away on Mac
Same idea. The Mac app keeps working in the background even when it's behind another window. You can:
- Switch to another app
- Hide the MotionEdge window or work in a different Space
- Lock your Mac
When the analysis is ready, a notification appears in the top-right corner of your screen and lands in Notification Center. Click it to bring MotionEdge forward and jump to the right conversation.
Setting up notifications
Notifications are how the app tells you "your swing is ready." If you haven't allowed notifications yet, you won't get the banner — though the analysis still completes and waits for you in the conversation.
To enable them:
- iPhone / iPad: Open Settings → Notifications → MotionEdge → turn on Allow Notifications. Banners, sounds, and Notification Center entries are all useful — leave the defaults on if you're not sure.
- Mac: Open System Settings → Notifications → MotionEdgeMac → turn on Allow Notifications. Either banner or alert style works — banner is fine for most people.
We only notify you when a swing analysis lands. No marketing, no app news, no other interruptions.
What if something goes wrong?
Once in a while something happens that's out of our hands during an analysis — your phone runs out of battery, the device restarts, the app gets force-closed, or a remote hiccup means the result never comes back. We've planned for it.
The next time you open MotionEdge, you'll see a quiet recovery prompt on the affected conversation:
Last analysis didn't complete — Retry / Dismiss
- Retry sends the swing back to the AI Coach exactly as before. You don't lose any of your setup — same swing, same training profile context, all of it. If your phone restarted mid-analysis, this is usually the only step you need.
- Dismiss clears the prompt and leaves your original message in the conversation. Use this if you've changed your mind or just want to move on.
You will never silently lose a swing you asked the coach to look at. Worst case, you tap Retry once.
Multiple swings at the same time
You can send more than one swing for analysis at once — across different conversations, or stacked in the same one. The app tracks each independently:
- The count badge on the AI Coach tab/sidebar shows how many are still running ("Analyzing — 2", "Analyzing — 3", etc.).
- Each conversation row shows its own spinner so you can see which conversations have work in flight.
- When an analysis lands, only that conversation's row updates — the others keep running.
- Each completed analysis fires its own notification, so you get a clear ping for each result.
Send four swings, lock your phone, drive home — you might get four banner notifications by the time you pull into the driveway. Tap any of them to jump straight to that result.
How to get to AI Coach
- iPhone: Tap the AI Coach tab at the bottom of the screen.
- iPad and Mac: Click AI Coach in the sidebar on the left.
From there, open any conversation that's currently analyzing — or just wait for the notification.
