Keyboard Shortcuts for Video Review
Why use a keyboard?
When you're studying your swing frame by frame, a physical keyboard makes navigation dramatically faster. Instead of tapping tiny buttons, you can hold an arrow key and scrub through your swing smoothly, or jump straight to impact with a single keypress. This is especially nice on iPad with a Magic Keyboard or on Mac — but it works on iPhone too if you have a Bluetooth keyboard connected.
How to find the shortcuts
In the Swing Viewer, look for the keyboard icon in the controls bar (next to the scissors/trim button). Tap it to see the full shortcut reference as a popover.
Playback
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Space | Play / Pause |
Frame Navigation
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Left / Right Arrow | Step back / forward one frame |
| Shift + Left / Right Arrow | Step back / forward five frames |
Hold to scrub: Press and hold any arrow key to auto-repeat — after a brief initial delay, the video scrubs at about 20 frames per second. This lets you smoothly scan through your swing without lifting your finger. Release the key to stop.
Note: Frame stepping only works when the video is paused. Hit Space to pause first, then use arrow keys to step through.
Swing Positions
Jump directly to any of the 10 detected swing positions — no scrolling, no searching.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Up Arrow | Jump to next swing position |
| Down Arrow | Jump to previous swing position |
| S | Setup / Address |
| T | Top of backswing |
| I | Impact |
| F | Finish |
| 0 – 9 | Jump to position by slot number |
The letter shortcuts map to the four positions golfers look at most. Hit I and you're at impact instantly — no hunting for the right frame. Then arrow through a few frames to see what your hands, hips, and clubface look like just before and after contact.
The number keys (0–9) correspond to the 10 filmstrip positions in order. 0 is address, 9 is finish, and everything in between maps to the same positions you see in your filmstrip.
Best setups for keyboard review
- iPad + Magic Keyboard — The sweet spot. Large enough screen to study your swing, full keyboard for navigation. Prop up your iPad, pair the keyboard, and you can analyze a session of swings in minutes.
- Mac (Catalyst) — Full desktop experience. Keyboard shortcuts are instant, and you have the screen real estate to study positions closely.
- iPhone + Bluetooth keyboard — Works great in a pinch. If you have a compact Bluetooth keyboard at the range, you can pair it and get the same frame-by-frame control.
Tips
- Pause first, then navigate. Frame stepping is disabled during playback — the arrow keys won't fight with the video player.
- Use Shift+Arrow for rough positioning, then plain Arrow to fine-tune. Jump 5 frames at a time to get close to the moment you're looking for, then step one frame at a time for precision.
- Hit I, then arrow forward a few frames to study your release and extension right after impact — one of the most revealing sequences in any swing.
- Use Up/Down arrows to walk through all 10 positions in order, seeing exactly what MotionEdge detected at each swing phase.
