Why Connect Your GHIN Handicap to MotionEdge?

You can type a handicap into your profile by hand. So why bother connecting GHIN?

Short version: connecting GHIN turns a number you typed once into live, real-world context the AI Coach can actually reason about. Your handicap stays current on its own, and the rounds you've genuinely played become something you can talk through with the Coach.

1. Your rounds become the conversation

This is the big one. Once GHIN is connected, MotionEdge pulls in your recent rounds — scores, the courses you played, course and slope ratings, your differentials. That means you can sit down with the AI Coach and have a conversation grounded in how you actually play, not how you remember playing:

  • "My last three rounds were 8 over, 14 over, then 6 over — why am I so streaky?"
  • "My handicap's been stuck around 11 all season. What should I be working on at the range to move it?"
  • "I shot my best round of the year last week — what does that tell me about my game right now?"

You're not describing your golf from memory anymore. The Coach can reference the rounds in front of it and tie them back to what it sees in your swing. That's the bridge between range work and the scorecard — and it's something no amount of swing video alone can give you.

2. Your handicap stays current — automatically

Your handicap index isn't a static number. It moves every time you post a score. When GHIN is connected, MotionEdge keeps your index up to date for you on a schedule you choose — Off, Daily, or Weekly — and you can always tap Sync Now for an instant refresh. No remembering to edit your profile after a good round. The number the Coach sees is the number GHIN has on record today.

3. The AI Coach calibrates to your real level

A 4-handicap and a 22-handicap need completely different feedback. The same swing fault matters in different ways, the drills are different, and the language should be different too. When your current, accurate handicap is part of the picture, the AI Coach pitches its feedback to where your game actually is — and updates that calibration as you improve, without you doing anything.

You're always in control of what the Coach sees

By default, connecting GHIN simply keeps your handicap index accurate. Sharing the deeper round-by-round detail with the AI Coach is a deliberate, one-tap choice you make — when you want to dig into scoring trends, your best-vs-worst rounds, or what to prioritize in practice, you choose to bring that data into the conversation. Nothing about your rounds is sent anywhere until you decide to discuss it.

Is my GHIN login safe?

Yes. Your GHIN credentials are securely stored in your keychain. MotionEdge uses them only to talk to GHIN's official service and pull your latest handicap and rounds onto your device — that's it. You can tap Disconnect GHIN anytime, which clears the stored credentials and the cached GHIN data.

For the full breakdown of exactly what reaches the AI versus what stays on your device, see Your Golfer Profile.

How to connect

  1. Open your Golfer Profile (from the AI Coach or Settings).
  2. Tap Connect GHIN.
  3. Sign in with your GHIN email (or number) and password.
  4. Pick an auto-update frequency — Daily is a good default.

That's it. Your handicap stays current from then on, and your rounds are ready whenever you want to talk them through with the Coach.

TL;DR

  • Connect once, and your real rounds become coaching context — discuss specific scores and trends with the AI Coach, not just your swing.
  • Your handicap stays accurate automatically (Off / Daily / Weekly, plus Sync Now).
  • The AI Coach calibrates feedback to your actual playing level.
  • You choose when round detail enters an AI conversation — the default is just your handicap index.
  • Your credentials are securely stored in your keychain, used only to fetch your data onto your device. Disconnect anytime.
