Your Golfer Profile — Why It's Worth Filling Out
Your golfer profile is a handful of details about you as a golfer — handedness, age range, experience level, handicap, a couple of preferences. It exists for one reason only: to make your AI Coach's feedback more useful.
That's the entire purpose. Read on for what's in it, what AI Coach actually does with it, and — importantly — what MotionEdge will not do with it.
What's in the profile
Seven fields total. None of them are required to use MotionEdge — you can ignore the profile entirely and the app still works. The AI Coach just won't know enough about you to tailor its feedback.

That's it. No mailing address, no phone number, no email (unless you connect GHIN — more on that below), no payment info, no anything you didn't deliberately enter.
Why it makes the AI Coach noticeably better
Without the profile, AI Coach has to make assumptions about you on every question — and it'll often guess wrong. With even a partly-filled profile, every response is tailored to:
- The body you're working with. A 65-year-old with limited mobility gets different feedback on "why your hip can't clear" than a 25-year-old who's just under-rotating.
- Your skill ceiling. A 24 handicap doesn't need a deep dive on attack angle for stinger shots — they need help squaring the face. A scratch player asking the same question wants the technical answer.
- Your direction of play. Left-handed golfers get tired of advice written for right-handers. Telling the AI you're a lefty fixes that on every response.
- The way you like to learn. Pick "Technical" if you want kinematic-sequence-and-shaft-lean talk. Pick "Simple" if you want "hit down on it, finish high." Pick "Adaptive" and the AI matches the technical depth of your question.
- The reality of your handicap and rounds. The same swing flaw matters differently if you've never broken 90 vs. if you're chasing a +1.
You don't have to fill in everything. Even just handedness + handicap + communication preference gets you most of the value.
How to fill it out
You'll get prompted to set up the profile the first time you open AI Coach or the Home dashboard's "Get Set Up" section. You can also reach the editor any time:
- iPhone / iPad: Tap the AI Coach tab at the bottom (iPhone) or in the sidebar on the left (iPad). The profile button is in the top-right of the conversation list.
- Mac: MotionEdge → Settings in the menu bar, then choose Golfer Profile.
- Home dashboard (all platforms): "Get Set Up" section → Create profile.
Edit any field any time. Changes take effect on your very next AI Coach question.
GHIN integration — what AI Coach sees vs. what stays out of the AI
If you have a GHIN handicap, you can connect it from the profile editor. MotionEdge pulls your current handicap index automatically and can refresh it on a schedule you pick (Off / Daily / Weekly).
Important: the AI Coach only ever sees your handicap index number from GHIN — nothing else. When the AI is generating a response, your name, email, GHIN number, club memberships, and association data are NOT included. The full GHIN data is used inside the app to show you your handicap and keep it current; it does not flow to the AI provider.
You can disconnect GHIN any time, which removes the cached GHIN data.
What the AI Coach actually receives
When you ask AI Coach a question, a curated bundle of profile attributes is included with the request: gender, handedness, age range, experience level, handicap index, rounds per year, communication preference. Nothing more.
The AI does NOT receive: your name, your email, your GHIN number, your club memberships, your location, your contact information — none of it. Even if you've connected GHIN, the AI sees one number from it (the handicap index) and that's all.
What MotionEdge will NOT do with this data
This is worth stating directly. Your golfer profile exists for AI Coach context. It does not flow into anything else.
- We do not sell it. Not to data brokers, not to golf brands, not to insurance companies, not to anyone.
- We do not use it for marketing or advertising. Your age range, handicap, and experience level do not determine which emails or App Store messages you see.
- We do not target push notifications based on it. Tips, suggestions, and feature announcements treat everyone the same — your handicap doesn't put you in a "low handicapper" or "high handicapper" segment.
- We do not include it in product analytics. We measure feature usage and event counts — but never with your profile attributes attached.
- We do not share it with other MotionEdge users. Even if you share a session with a coach or a friend, your profile does not travel with that share.
If you'd rather not fill in the profile at all, the AI Coach still works — its answers will just be more generic. That's a totally fine choice and there's no nag about it.
Clearing it
You can clear individual fields at any time in the profile editor — set a field back to "—" and it's gone. To wipe the whole profile, edit every field back to its empty state. To disconnect GHIN, tap Disconnect GHIN in the profile editor.
TL;DR

- AI Coach receives a curated bundle of the profile attributes; GHIN PII (name, email, GHIN number, clubs) is NEVER sent to the AI.
