Shot Trajectory — Side and Overhead Views of One Swing

Shot Trajectory is the 3D flight of this swing — the path the ball actually flew — drawn two ways: from the side (how high, how far) and from above (left or right of the target line). The numbers under the traces are the same flight metrics you'd read on a launch monitor: carry, total, max height, landing angle, hang time.

It is not a session heat map and not a simulated hole. One swing, one flight.

Where to find it

Device How to get there
iPhone / iPad Sessions or All Swings → tap a swing that has TrackMan flight → Video Review. Tap the panel type (the name or icon at the top of the panel) and choose Shot Trajectory when it appears in the list.
Mac Same path from the sidebar, or double-click the swing. Then switch a panel to Shot Trajectory when it appears in the list.

This panel needs 3D trajectory from TrackMan — the point-by-point flight, not just the summary numbers. That comes from a live TrackMan connection (when the shot included flight points) or from a report link that carries a ball trajectory. A stroke file (.tms) never includes 3D flight — after a .tms import you get TrackMan Data (the numbers) only. Full breakdown: Shot Trajectory vs TrackMan Data.

If the swing has radar numbers but no 3D flight, Shot Trajectory does not appear in the picker. Use TrackMan Data — that's the metrics grid, and it shows whenever the swing has TrackMan numbers. MotionEdge does not draw a made-up arc.

What the two views show

Side view

Height versus distance down the target line. The ground is the baseline. The solid orange line is the ball in the air; a dashed continuation is bounce and roll after it lands. The landing is marked with a dot.

This is the picture for launch and height: a ballooned wedge, a piercing iron, a driver that never got up.

Overhead view

Left/right versus distance down the target line. The faint center line is the target. The solid teal line is the flight; dashed is bounce and roll. The landing dot is where carry ended.

This is the picture for start line and curve: a push that never came back, a draw that started at the left edge and found the middle.

The numbers under the traces

When the swing also has TrackMan summary data, the panel lists:

Metric What it is
Max Height Peak of the flight.
Carry Air distance to the landing dot.
Total Carry plus bounce and roll.
Carry Side How far left or right of the target the ball landed.
Landing Angle How steeply the ball came down.
Hang Time Time in the air.

Distances and heights follow the units you've chosen in Settings (yards or meters). The club name, when TrackMan sent one, sits in the header next to carry.

How this is different from TrackMan Data

TrackMan Data is the full radar grid — club, ball, and flight numbers. Shot Trajectory is the picture of that flight. Open both if you want the curve and the table. The AI Coach can use the same numbers when they're on the swing; this panel is for your eye.

Tips

  • The traces are only as good as the TrackMan data on the swing. If the unit wasn't aimed at your actual target, the overhead view will look "wrong" in a way that is actually a target-line problem — see Setup Aimpoint.
  • Bounce and roll only appear when TrackMan recorded them. A net or a mat with no rollout will show flight and a landing dot, then stop.
