AI Coach Packs — How They Work and When to Buy One
Your MotionEdge Pro subscription includes a monthly allowance of AI Coach conversations. That allowance is generous and resets every month, so most golfers never think about it. But if you're in an unusually heavy stretch — working through a swing change with daily Deep Analyze sessions, mid-lesson with a coach who's running multi-swing comparisons, or you just want a buffer before a range trip — you can buy an AI Coach Pack to extend your AI Coach beyond the monthly quota.
A Pack isn't a separate subscription. It's a one-time, prepaid top-up that sits in a wallet on your account until you need it, and it doesn't expire for a full year from the date you bought it.
How the math works
There are two pools:
- Your monthly subscription quota. Resets at the start of each month. AI Coach calls always draw from this pool first. The vast majority of golfers will only ever use this.
- Your AI Coach Pack wallet. Only used after your monthly quota is fully spent. When you run out for the month, the AI Coach keeps working — it just starts drawing from your Pack credits instead.
The order is important: your monthly subscription always goes first. Packs are a backstop. You won't accidentally burn through your Pack while you still have monthly quota available — the proxy automatically routes calls to monthly first.
If you have multiple Packs, they drain oldest first (FIFO). So a Pack you bought six months ago is consumed before one you bought yesterday — which is also why the one-year expiry rarely matters in practice: you'd have to buy multiple Packs and use almost none of your monthly quota for a year to leave credits unspent.
Where to buy a Pack
You have two ways:
- Proactively, before you run out. Open Settings → AI Coach → AI Coach Pack. You'll see your current Pack balance, the oldest credit's expiry date, your purchase history if you've bought before, and a Buy AI Coach Pack button. Tap it, confirm the Apple purchase prompt, and the credits land in your wallet within a few seconds.
- Reactively, when the AI Coach Tab tells you you're out. When you ask a question that would put you over your monthly limit, you'll see a friendly "You've used all your AI Coach quota for this month" sheet with a one-tap Buy button. Same product, same wallet.
Either way is fine. The Settings → AI Coach screen is also where you can browse your purchase history and see exactly how many credits you have, when each batch expires, and how each Pack is being drawn down.
Watching your quota approach the limit
You don't need to monitor anything to use the AI Coach normally — it just works. But for awareness:
- Under 75% of monthly used — no UI. AI Coach behaves normally.
- 75% to 99% used — a small inline badge appears in the AI Coach interface so you know you're getting close.
- 100% used — a friendly message tells you the monthly quota is exhausted, with a Buy AI Coach Pack option to keep going right away. Your monthly quota will reset on the first day of next month.
If you have a Pack balance, the AI Coach just keeps working past 100% of monthly — drawing from your Pack invisibly. You'll see the Pack balance decrease in Settings.
How long credits last
Each Pack you buy is valid for one year from the date of purchase. After that, any unspent credits from that Pack expire. The settings screen always shows you the expiry date of your oldest unspent batch, so you can see at a glance whether anything is approaching expiry.
A year is long enough that the average golfer who needs a Pack will use it up well before the timer matters. If you're filming heavily through a season and asking the AI Coach about your swing every range trip, your monthly quota covers most of it and a Pack will likely empty over the course of a few months of heavy use.
How it works across your family
If you've shared your Pro subscription with your family via Apple Family Sharing — see Practicing Golf as a Family for the full story — your AI Coach Pack credits work the same way for the household:
- Any family member can buy a Pack. Whoever taps the Buy button pays via their own Apple ID. (Apple's "Ask to Buy" parental control applies normally if a kid is the one buying.)
- The credits land in the family's shared wallet. All family members draw from the same pool. If you buy a Pack, your spouse or kid can use those credits the same as if they'd bought it themselves.
- Same expiry rules apply. Each purchase is good for one year from the date of purchase, regardless of which family member bought it.
This is by design. One Pro subscription, one shared wallet, one household. Money in goes to a single pool; AI Coach calls from any family member draw from that pool.
What happens if my Pro subscription ends with Pack credits remaining
Your Pack credits are tied to your subscription account. If you cancel Pro (or your subscription lapses) while you still have Pack credits:
- The credits remain on your account but can't be spent until your subscription is active again — AI Coach access itself requires Pro.
- The one-year expiry continues to count down regardless of subscription state. So a Pack bought eight months ago will still expire four months from now, whether you're subscribed or not.
- If you re-subscribe within the year and there are Pack credits still unexpired, they'll be available to spend immediately on the new subscription cycle.
In practice, this means: don't buy a Pack on the way out the door if you're not planning to come back. But a Pack bought during normal Pro use that you didn't quite finish will still be there if you re-subscribe later in the year.
Refunds
AI Coach Packs are purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase system, so the standard Apple refund path applies. If you regret a purchase or feel it was made in error, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the purchase, and request a refund. Apple makes the final call — MotionEdge doesn't approve or deny refunds on Apple's side.
If Apple grants the refund, the corresponding credits are removed from your wallet automatically.
