Free vs Pro

Practicing Golf as a Family — One MotionEdge Pro Subscription for the Whole Household

If you're working on the game with your kid — or your spouse, or anyone else in your household — MotionEdge is built for that. One Pro subscription covers up to six family members through Apple Family Sharing, and once everyone has Pro, you can share specific practice sessions with each other and trade comments swing by swing.

This isn't a separate "family plan" you sign up for. It's just the standard Apple Family Sharing setup working the way it's supposed to, plus an intentional design choice on our side: when your family shares your subscription, they also share your AI Coach credits and any AI Coach Packs you've bought. One monthly fee genuinely covers the household.

One Pro subscription, the whole family

When you turn on Subscription Sharing in Settings → Apple ID → Family Sharing → Subscriptions, every Apple ID in your Family Sharing group gets access to your MotionEdge Pro subscription on their own devices.

That means each family member, on their own iPhone, iPad, or Mac, gets:

  • The unlimited swing library (no 25-active-swing cap)
  • Unlimited daily saves from live capture
  • TrackMan integration (file import, report import, live connection)
  • Remote Camera pairing across devices
  • iCloud sync on their own iCloud account
  • The full AI Coach

No extra subscription, no extra trial to start, no separate account to create. Each person signs in to their own Apple ID on their own device, and Pro is just there.

Your AI Coach credits also share

Here's the part that makes MotionEdge specifically good for families: the monthly AI Coach credits included with Pro pool across the whole family, and so does any AI Coach Pack you buy.

The way it works under the hood: MotionEdge's AI proxy keys your account off the original transaction ID of your subscription, not off individual Apple IDs. Family Sharing recipients all show up as the same subscription, so they all draw from the same monthly credit balance and the same AI Coach Pack wallet. Whoever uses the AI Coach first draws down the shared pool.

Practically: if your daughter burns through her video range session asking the AI about her takeaway, you'll see fewer credits available when you sit down that night to ask about your driver. If you want more, any family member can buy an AI Coach Pack on their own device, and the credits become available to everyone in the family — no transfer needed, no separate setup. Pack credits are only drawn after the monthly quota is exhausted, and each Pack is valid for one year from the date of purchase. See AI Coach Packs — How They Work and When to Buy One for the full mechanics.

This is intentional. The pitch is "one Pro subscription, one monthly fee, the whole family." If AI Coach Packs were locked to individual Apple IDs, that pitch would fall apart for households where the parent is the financial center but the kid is the heavy AI user. So we built it the other way.

Sharing actual practice sessions

Family Sharing handles the subscription side. To actually trade swings and comments with each other, you use MotionEdge's iCloud session sharing — the same feature a golfer would use to share a session with their coach or a playing partner.

The mechanics are covered in iCloud Sync — How It Works. The short version: on any session, tap Share → invite the other person's iCloud account → they accept and the session lands in their MotionEdge. Their comments on individual swings appear on your device. Your comments appear on theirs. Each of you can run your own AI Coach analyses on those swings independently.

Family Sharing and iCloud session sharing are separate Apple features that combine naturally for households:

  • Family Sharing = the entitlement (everyone has Pro)
  • iCloud session sharing = the collaboration (you trade actual swings and comments)

You need both to get the full "practice as a family" experience.

A real example

Say your son is working on his transition and you've been filming him every Saturday morning at the range. After the session:

  1. On your iPhone (the family's Pro subscriber), you create a session called "Marcus — transition work" and capture his swings.
  2. You share that session with his iCloud account from the session's Share menu.
  3. He accepts on his iPad. The session and all its swings land in his app.
  4. He opens a swing, taps AI Coach, and asks "what's my left hip doing through impact?" The AI burns a credit from the shared family pool and answers him with hip-position data pulled from the video.
  5. Later that day you open the same swing on your Mac, type a comment ("focus on this one — keep your hip from sliding past your ankle"), and his iPad shows the comment.
  6. He films himself a few more times, captures into his own session called "Working on hip", and shares that session back with you.

You're both Pro. You're both running AI Coach analyses. You're both commenting on each other's swings. One subscription, no per-seat add-on, no separate AI Coach billing per family member.

What's covered, what's separate

Covered by your Pro subscription via Family Sharing:

  • Every Pro feature on every family member's device (capture, library, TrackMan, Remote Camera, iCloud sync, AI Coach)
  • The monthly AI Coach credit allowance included with Pro
  • Any AI Coach Pack purchases — credits land in the shared family wallet (used after monthly quota; valid for one year per purchase)
  • The 7-day free trial — but note this is one-time per Family group, not per family member

Not covered by Family Sharing (these are inherently per-person):

  • Each family member's own iCloud storage (everyone has their own iCloud account)
  • Each family member's own MotionEdge swing library on their devices (data isn't auto-merged across family members — that's what session sharing is for)
  • Each family member's own AI Coach memory (the AI builds a per-person model of "you as a golfer"; your daughter's AI Coach memory is hers, yours is yours, and the AI doesn't get them confused)
  • Each family member's own training profile, golfer profile, and Apple Watch data

The lines are drawn the way you'd want them: shared spend, separate identity. Your AI Coach knows you. Her AI Coach knows her. The bill is one bill.

What if my kid is under 13?

Apple lets you create a Child Apple ID for kids under 13 and add it to your Family Sharing group. That child account inherits your MotionEdge Pro subscription the same way an adult family member does.

Apple's "Ask to Buy" parental control does NOT affect the inherited subscription — your child gets Pro automatically. Ask to Buy would only kick in if your child tried to purchase something on their own (like an AI Coach Pack). If you want them to be able to extend the family's AI credits, you'd buy the pack from your account.

Setting it up

The MotionEdge side is fully automatic. If you've already enabled Apple Family Sharing for other apps (Apple Music, iCloud+, Apple Arcade) it works the same way for MotionEdge.

  1. On the subscriber's device, open Settings → Apple ID → Family Sharing.
  2. If Family Sharing isn't set up yet, tap Set Up Your Family and invite up to five other people via iMessage or email.
  3. Tap Subscriptions in the Family Sharing settings and confirm Subscription Sharing is on for MotionEdge.
  4. On each family member's device, sign in to their own Apple ID, install MotionEdge, and the Pro features just appear.

That's it. No login on the MotionEdge side, no codes to enter, no per-seat configuration in the app. Apple handles the propagation; MotionEdge picks it up automatically the next time it checks your entitlement.
