Recently Deleted — Recover Deleted Swings and Sessions
The Recently Deleted screen arrives in MotionEdge 2.2. Earlier versions show Recycle Bin in Settings → Sync & Sharing, which works differently.
When you delete a swing or a session in MotionEdge 2.2, it isn't gone. It goes to Recently Deleted and stays there for 30 days, with its video, your drawings, the filmstrip and any TrackMan or Apple Watch data. Recover it any time in those 30 days and it comes back where it was. After 30 days it is deleted for good.
It works the way Recently Deleted works in Photos, Notes and Files.
If any of your devices are still on an older version, see the last section of this article.
Do I need Pro or iCloud Sync for Recently Deleted?
Not on one device. Recently Deleted on one device is free for everyone, with Sync off. Recently Deleted across all your devices, and in shared collections, comes with MotionEdge Pro, because Sync and sharing are part of Pro.
- Without Sync (free, or Pro with Sync off): Recently Deleted is on this device. A swing you delete here can be recovered here.
- With MotionEdge Pro and Sync on: Recently Deleted covers all your devices. Delete on your iPhone and the swing shows in Recently Deleted on your iPad and Mac too. Recover it on any of them and it comes back everywhere.
- In a shared collection (sharing needs Pro): Recently Deleted also covers what people delete in collections you share. See the shared collection section below.
Where do I find Recently Deleted?
Two places, on iPhone, iPad and Mac:
- At the bottom of your Sessions list, below your collections. Tap Recently Deleted.
- Settings → Sync & Sharing → Recently Deleted.
Each item shows how many days it has left. A deleted session shows as one item with its swing count, for example Range day · 12 swings.
What happens when I delete a swing or session?
MotionEdge asks first, and the message tells you where it's going:
- Sync off: It will be in Recently Deleted on this device for 30 days.
- Sync on: It will be removed from all your devices and kept in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
- Shared collection: It will be deleted for everyone in "Karen's Lessons" and kept in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
Confirm, and it leaves your session list right away. The device you deleted it on keeps it in Recently Deleted too, so you can get it back on the device in your hand.
Deleting a session takes its swings with it, and they go to Recently Deleted together as one item.
How do I recover something?
- Open Recently Deleted (bottom of the Sessions list, or Settings → Sync & Sharing → Recently Deleted).
- Tap Recover next to the item. You can also touch and hold it (right-click on Mac) and choose Recover.
It comes back to the session it came from, with its video. If that session was deleted too, MotionEdge brings the session back with the same name and date.
With Sync on, recovering on one device recovers it on all your devices, and it leaves Recently Deleted everywhere.
On the free plan, recovering counts toward your swing limit like saving a new swing. Items in Recently Deleted don't count. If recovering would take you over the limit, MotionEdge asks you to upgrade or make room first, and nothing is recovered until you do. A session is recovered whole, never part of it.
Can I delete something permanently before 30 days?
Yes. In Recently Deleted:
- One item: swipe left on it and tap Delete Permanently, or touch and hold it (right-click on Mac) and choose Delete Permanently.
- Everything: tap Delete All.
Both ask you to confirm, and both say who it affects: this device (Sync off), all your devices and iCloud (Sync on), or everyone in a shared collection. Permanent deletion can't be undone.
How does deleting work in a shared collection?
A swing deleted in a shared collection is deleted for everyone in it. Who can do what depends on what the collection's owner lets them do:
| You are | You can delete | You see deletions in Recently Deleted | You can delete permanently |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owner | Any swing or session | All of them | Anything |
| Administrator | Any swing or session | All of them | Only swings you added (others you can recover) |
| Can add swings | Only swings you added; a session only if every swing in it is yours | Swings you added, and anything you deleted | Only swings you added |
| Can view | Nothing (Delete isn't offered) | Nothing | Nothing |
- If someone else deletes a swing you added, it shows in your Recently Deleted marked Deleted by and their name (or Deleted by another member if MotionEdge doesn't know their name), and Recently Deleted shows a badge so you notice.
- Recovering a shared swing puts it back in the collection for everyone.
- If you can no longer add to that collection (you were changed to view-only, you left, or the collection is gone), recovering a swing you added puts a copy in your own collection instead. The app tells you when it does this.
- People who can only view don't get a copy of deleted swings, so their device frees the space right away.
When you leave a collection, or are removed: you keep a copy of every swing you added, in your own collection. Swings you added that were in Recently Deleted stay recoverable for you, into your own collection, with the time they had left. Other people's deleted swings leave your Recently Deleted.
Deleting a whole shared collection is different. It removes the collection for everyone and can't be undone. Move anything you want to keep out of it first. See Collections — How Sharing Works.
Does Recently Deleted use storage?
On your devices: yes. A swing in Recently Deleted keeps its video on your device until it is deleted permanently. The top of Recently Deleted shows how much space the items use. Delete All frees it right away.
In iCloud (Sync on): yes, for up to 30 days. Unlike photos in Apple's Photos app, deleted swings still count toward your iCloud storage until they are deleted permanently. That is what lets you recover them, with video, on any of your devices. For a shared collection, the space is on the owner's iCloud.
What if I turn Sync on or off, or my Pro subscription ends?
- Turning Sync on: items already in Recently Deleted stay on that device only, with the days they had left. They aren't uploaded. Recover one and it syncs to your other devices like any swing.
- Turning Sync off: Recently Deleted stays on each device, with the same days left. From then on, recovering or deleting on one device doesn't change the others. Swings you added to a shared collection and then deleted stay in your Recently Deleted, and you can still recover them, with their video. To delete those permanently, turn Sync back on.
- Pro ends and you choose to keep using MotionEdge without Sync: items in Recently Deleted are downloaded with the rest of your library and kept on each device, with the days they had left. If one can't be downloaded, MotionEdge tells you which, and the rest of your library still comes across.
- Pro ends and you were in someone else's shared collection: you lose access to that collection, but the swings you added are kept, as copies in your own collection. Any you had deleted stay in your Recently Deleted and can be recovered into your own collection. Other people's swings leave your device.
If you also use an older version of MotionEdge on another device
Recently Deleted works fully once every device on your Apple Account, and everyone in your shared collections, is on MotionEdge 2.2 or later. Until then, a device still on an older version may:
- Show deleted swings in its Recycle Bin instead, and show a deleted session as an empty session. Don't delete that empty session on the older device: doing so permanently removes its swings from Recently Deleted on every device.
- Treat Delete Permanently or Empty Recycle Bin as permanent on every device, and for everyone in a shared collection.
- Lose a swing you recovered there, if another device clears out its 30-day-old items before the older device has synced.
- Say some videos "need attention," or show a recovered swing without its video. The video is safe in iCloud and on your other devices.
- Let a person with an older version delete swings in a shared collection that 2.2 wouldn't allow. The owner always sees those in Recently Deleted and can recover them.
What to do: update MotionEdge on all your devices (and ask the people you share collections with to update). Until you do, recover and delete from a device that's on 2.2.
What if I don't want a swing in a shared collection, but don't want to delete it?
Move it instead. Move the swing into a session in My Swings or a collection you haven't shared, and the people in the shared collection stop seeing it. If it isn't yours to move, Save a copy puts a copy in your own collection. See Collections — How Sharing Works.
