AI Coach Connection Status — What Each Message Means

If the AI Coach isn't answering, you don't have to guess why. Test Connection runs a quick end-to-end check and tells you exactly where the problem is — and, just as usefully, tells you when there isn't one.

The short version: if the headline is green, you can chat. Everything else on the screen is detail.

Where to find it

Device How to get there
iPhone / iPad Settings → AI CoachTest Connection
Mac MotionEdgeSettingsAI Coach tab → Test Connection

Tap it any time. It doesn't change anything or use any of your AI Coach allowance — it just checks and reports.

The four things it can tell you

What you see Colour Can you chat? Do you need to do anything?
AI Coach connected Green Yes No
AI Coach connected, with the note "Subscription verification delayed — your features remain available with the last verified status." Green with an amber note Yes No
AI service temporarily unavailable. Your swings and sessions are unaffected. Red Not right now Wait and retry
Can't reach AI Coach — check your internet connection. Red Not right now Check your internet connection

AI Coach connected

Everything is working. The app reached the MotionEdge service, the AI provider answered, and your subscription checked out. Ask away.

AI Coach connected, with "Subscription verification delayed"

This one looks alarming and isn't. The full note reads: "Subscription verification delayed — your features remain available with the last verified status." — and it means exactly that. The headline is still green, and green means what it says — chat works normally, nothing is switched off, and you haven't lost any features.

Periodically the app re-confirms your subscription with the App Store. Occasionally that particular check is slow to come back — during App Store maintenance, for example. When that happens, MotionEdge keeps running on the subscription status it last confirmed and quietly tries again in the background.

Nothing is expiring, nothing is being withheld, and there's nothing for you to do. The note disappears on its own once the check completes.

AI service temporarily unavailable

The full message reads: "AI service temporarily unavailable. Your swings and sessions are unaffected." The MotionEdge service is up and your connection is fine, but the AI provider behind the Coach isn't responding right now. This is on our side of the fence, not yours.

While it lasts, conversations won't go through — but nothing else is affected. You can keep recording swings, the app still detects them automatically, filmstrips and metrics are still computed right there on your device, and everything still syncs through iCloud. Only the conversation itself is waiting.

Give it a few minutes and tap Test Connection again. If it persists for more than an hour or so, let us know.

Can't reach AI Coach

The full message reads: "Can't reach AI Coach — check your internet connection." The app couldn't reach the MotionEdge service at all. Nearly always this is local connectivity rather than anything wrong with your account:

  • Weak or dropped Wi‑Fi / cellular — the usual suspect at a range or a course.
  • A captive portal — hotel, club, or public Wi‑Fi showing a "click here to connect" page you haven't accepted yet. Open a browser, accept it, then retry.
  • A VPN or content filter — corporate networks in particular. Try turning the VPN off briefly to confirm.
  • Airplane mode left on after a flight.

Confirm you can load a normal web page, then tap Test Connection again.

Why "connected" is the only thing you really need to read

The status is deliberately tiered so the colour tells the truth. A red message means the Coach can't answer you. It doesn't go red for background housekeeping that has no effect on your session — which is why the subscription-verification note sits underneath a green headline rather than turning the whole thing red.

If you take one thing from this article: green means go, regardless of what the smaller print says.

What keeps working even when the Coach can't answer

Worth being clear about, because it's most of the app:

  • Recording and automatic swing detection
  • Filmstrip, pose overlays, tempo, hand path, and every other on-device metric
  • TrackMan and launch monitor data you've imported
  • Apple Watch capture and metrics
  • iCloud sync across your devices
  • Reviewing, comparing, and sharing swings

The AI Coach is the one feature that needs to reach out to the internet. Everything above is computed on your own device and keeps working offline — at the range with no signal, on a plane, anywhere.

Still stuck?

If Test Connection reports green but the Coach still isn't responding the way you expect, that's worth a message. Drop us a line at support@motionedge.ai and tell us what the status said — it's exactly the detail that lets us pinpoint the problem quickly.
